Sewing Workshops at The Sewing Barn in Derbyshire

Regular Workshops

All these monthly workshops are the time for you to make whatever you would like to at a pace that suits you. I am available throughout the workshop to provide you with all the help and guidance you may need.

Whatever you would like to make; bags, dresses, children’s clothes, stuffed toys, cushions, patchwork and quilting you can come and learn in a friendly, inclusive , well equipped space. There are a maximum of eight places in workshop.
Tea/coffee are included in the price (sometimes biscuits)
You need to book in advance for each workshop – you can attend more than one it’s up to you.

Tuesday
On the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month. 10am – 3pm £38.00

Wednesday
On the 4th Wednesday each month, 10 am – 4pm £45.00

Thursday
On the 4th Thursday each month , 10:30 am – 4 pm £45.00

Saturday
On the 1st and 2nd Saturday each month 10 am – 4pm £45.00

Textile Landscapes 1

Runs 2nd and 4th Friday each month

Starting on Friday 27th February Beginners Patchwork and Quilting . No previous sewing experience needed. 10 am – 3pm £38.

Runs 1st and 3rd Friday each month

Starting on Friday 20th Beginners dressmaking. No previous sewing experience needed. We will start by making a V neck short sleeve top. 10am – 3pm £38.00

Run 3rd Saturday each month

Saturday 22nd: A new workshop focusing on patchwork and quilting. Designed for complete beginners, no previous sewing experience is required.. The workshop runs from 10 am – 4 pm and costs £45.00

February Workshops

Wednesday 18th Free motion embroidery workshop.

Participants will learn how to set up their sewing machines, experiment with different stitches, and discover techniques for creating textures, images, and writing. The workshop is held from 10:00 to 16:00, costs £55.00, and includes all materials except threads. No prior sewing experience is necessary

March Workshops

Wednesday 11th and Thursday 18th or April 8th and 9th - 2 Day Dressmaking Workshop: Merchant & Mills Trapeze Dress

This workshop is tailored for individuals who are new to dressmaking, but it is essential that participants are already proficient in using a sewing machine. Over the course of the sessions, attendees will receive guidance on selecting the appropriate size for themselves and will learn how to accurately follow the pattern instructions to cut out their fabric.

Comprehensive instruction will be provided on achieving professional-quality seam finishes, including the correct techniques and timing for applying stay stitching. Participants will also be taught how to hem a garment effectively, alongside other fundamental dressmaking skills necessary for creating high-standard garments.

The workshop is scheduled to run from 10:00 to 15:00 each day. The full fee for both days is £130. Pattern is included but not fabrics required. To ensure personalised support and a comfortable working environment, places are strictly limited to just four attendees, allowing everyone to receive dedicated assistance and have their own workspace.

Thursday 19th March - Fabric Collage workshop.

Enjoy a day of fabric sticking and sewing to create an image such as a robin, fish, elephant head, flowers etc. You will be able to try free motion stitching as an option to embellish your collage .Templates will be provided, and the finished collage will measure approximately 30cm x 30cm. The workshop runs from 10:00 to 16:00, costs £68.00, and includes all materials, except threads.

Thursday 2nd

Appliqué Workshop. This session is perfect for those interested in learning decorative appliqué techniques. Running from 10:00 to 16:00, the workshop costs £55.00 and includes all necessary materials except threads. Suitable for beginners and those looking to refine their skills, the workshop will cover different types of applique and stitches to use advice on selecting fabrics, cutting shapes, and applying them for creative results.
